Matthew Bromley, age 39, of Torrington, was shot and killed around 4:51 p.m., on Monday, June 7 at the law office of Cramer & Anderson at 46 West St., in the Town of Litchfield, said Connecticut State Police.
The cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to the head, state police said.
The subject of the investigation has been identified as Robert Fisher, a real estate attorney, whose law career spans 40 years and is a partner in the firm.
The firm said on Monday that Fisher is taking a leave of absence while the killing is under investigation and the firm is cooperating fully with the investigation.
State police, who said there was some kind of argument before the shooting, say Fisher stayed at the scene and talked to investigators after the shooting.
Trooper Josue Dorelus said on Monday that a handgun had been recovered from the scene, and the investigation remains "active and ongoing."
According to his bio on the firm's website, Fisher, who works out of Cramer & Anderson's Washington Depot office, joined the law firm after graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1976. He became a partner five years later.
